Job Opportunity - Executive Director

Emerge NM seeks a highly motivated and dynamic individual to serve as Executive Director. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to coordinating with the appropriate committee chairpersons to: Plan and execute the Emerge New Mexico candidate training program, manage the organization’s finances and budget, manage the database, supervise staff and volunteers, implement the communications plan, promote the program, recruit program applicants and coordinate the interview and selection process for these applicants, plan agendas and provide appropriate materials for board meetings, and act as a referral and connection resource for program members and alumnae.

BACKGROUND

Emerge New Mexico is a 527 non-profit organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for public office and win. Our mission is to identify, educate and inspire Democratic women from all backgrounds to pursue elective office at the local, state and national levels. Emerge New Mexico was founded in 2006 and is affiliated with Emerge America. There are currently state based Emerge programs in 24 other states. RESPONSIBILITIES

Emerge New Mexico is a program that inspires, recruits and trains women to run for office. Our hundreds of alumnae, board members, trainers and committee members form more than a program, they are a movement to create equity in policy, politics and elected office.  The Executive Director not only organizes and runs the Emerge New Mexico training program, but by incorporating as many Emerge volunteers as possible, engages, energizes, and activates our movement:

Program and Communications: With the appropriate committees:

  • Recruit, train, and inspire Democratic women to run for office
  • Plan and execute our flagship six-month candidate training program, including managing all training logistics, scheduling trainings, securing venues, and securing and preparing trainers
  • Plan and execute a weekend-long candidate boot camp once a year, if necessary
  • Support and engage Emerge New Mexico alumnae to further our mission, with help from committee members
  • Serve as spokesperson for the organization
  • Manage all external communication for the organization
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partner organizations

Administration:

  • Manage day-to-day operations for the organization
  • Supervise and direct staff and volunteers
  • Work with other Delta staff to administer and maintain the organization’s finances, corporate records and tax compliance.
  • Administer the organization’s multiple databases
  • Ensure that Emerge New Mexico is actively participating with our national affiliate, Emerge America

Fundraising: With the Development Committee:

  • Direct all fundraising efforts, with Board involvement, including but not limited to event management and direct donor solicitation
  • Plan and execute annual fundraising event – Women, Wine and Chocolate Gala
  • Cultivate and maintain relations with donors
  • Develop and maintain marketing campaigns for fundraising and donor development initiatives
  • Execute the four fundraising events Emerge New Mexico holds each year: kickoff reception, annual gala, Las Cruces reception and graduation ceremony

Organizational Development: With the Executive Committee

  • Build and manage relationships with the Board of Directors
  • Oversee all Board governance, including scheduling and preparing for board meetings, participating in Board recruitment, development, and training
  • Plan and execute one Board Retreat per year
  • Develop vision and strategy to advance the organization’s mission
  • Track board commitments

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated commitment to Emerge New Mexico’s values;
  • Passion for and knowledge of women’s political leadership issues
  • Ability to speak to and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated fundraising skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective multitasking abilities and efficiency in time management
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Non-profit management experience in some of the following functions: boards of directors, staff, budgets, administrative functions, program development and fundraising
  • Experience working within and managing fiscally conservative budgets
  • Comfort with public speaking and excellent written and oral communications;
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate
  • Ability to develop trusted and effective working relationships with diverse and multicultural constituencies, including boards of directors, staff, donors, volunteers and a diverse array of supporters and stakeholders
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with a high degree of tact and discretion
  • Ability to travel as needed; limited in-state travel required

JOB SCHEDULE AND LOCATION

Delta employees are able to set very flexible schedules, but applicants should be aware that working at Delta sometimes requires attendance at our clients’ board/committee meetings, conferences, and other events that may occur on evenings and weekends.

Delta has offices in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. This position will be located in Albuquerque, but there may be some travel between the two locations and within the state of New Mexico (mileage is reimbursed).

This job description and position dictate that sitting, standing, driving and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs will be necessary.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time position and the salary range is $60k-$70k. Benefits include generous paid time off; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and access to a 401(k).
